Regional Information Systems Working Group

The Regional Information Systems Working Group (RISWG) is a working group of the Regional Planning Commissioners of Ontario (RPCO) and reports to this parent group. The participants in this information sharing/working group are concerned with data, systems and research issues primarily directed to land use planning, forecasting and municipal decision-making functions.

Representatives from Provincial and Federal agencies participate in RISWG meetings alongside municipal representatives from the RPCO member municipalities, keeping lines of communication open. Participating agencies include the provincial ministries of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH), Transportation (MTO), Natural Resources (MNR) and Finance (MFO), as well as Statistics Canada, and other agencies such as the Muncipal Parcel Assessment Corporation (MPAC), the Urban Development Institute (UDI), the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and GO Transit.

Current topics of discussion include dissemination of Statistics Canada demographic data to municipalities, and the relationship between MPAC and municipalities. The group also discusses the best ways to handle different classes of data, and developed three planning data standards for the RPCO.

Planning Data Standards

  • Planning Data Standards - Recommended Guidelines for Property Data
  • Planning Data Standards - Recommended Guidelines for Employment Data
